Blythewood Road

This homeowner dreamed of a natural transition between their front and back yards — but the steep hillside posed a challenge. They wanted a space where they could relax, surrounded by lush gardens, the soothing sounds of water, and the warmth of the sun.
To transform the slope into a welcoming retreat, we designed and built a series of stone walls and stairs that gracefully guide movement through the space. Gravel terraces provide intimate seating areas, while perennial gardens and privacy screening create a secluded oasis. Low-voltage path lighting ensures the space is inviting at all hours, and a custom water feature adds a calming ambiance.
A thoughtful mix of perennials and evergreens provides color, texture and seasonal interest, ensuring the garden remains vibrant all year.
Blending seamlessly with the landscape, these elements create a safe and elegant transition.
A bubbling fountain brings movement and tranquility to the space, attracting birds and pollinators while creating a peaceful ambiance.
Today, the homeowners revel in their private retreat, sipping coffee on the sunlit gravel terrace, breathing in the fragrance of the flowers, and listening to the gentle hum of bees and birds. Their beautiful backyard has even been recognized with the 2025 Best Residential Landscape award from Baltimore Home Magazine — a testament to its timeless charm.
